Gates & Automation
Melbourne
Driveway and pedestrian gates, from a simple swing gate to a fully automated sliding gate with video intercom. LiftMaster and FAAC motors, installed and serviced across Melbourne.
Automated Gate Options Melbourne
Melbourne Fence Services supplies, installs, and services residential and light commercial driveway gates. From a simple manual timber gate to a FAAC-powered double-leaf swing gate with video intercom, we design the right system for your property.
We are authorised installers for LiftMaster, FAAC, and Nice gate automation systems. Every automated gate installation includes a site-specific engineering assessment to determine the correct motor torque, battery backup requirements, and safety features.
The two facts that actually settle swing versus sliding are slope and side room, not budget. Set them in the configurator below and we will tell you what your driveway can take, the honest trade-off, and what to measure before we quote.

Which gate will your driveway actually take?
Price follows the gate. The gate follows your driveway. Set the three choices below and we will tell you what your site can actually take, the honest trade-off, and what to measure before we quote.
Sliding parks beside the opening and moves parallel to the ground, so it suits a sloping or windy driveway, as long as you have the side room.
Needs clear run-back room beside the opening to park the gate, roughly as much side space as the opening is wide.
Costs a little more than swing and needs a level track path, but it does not swing into the driveway and it handles slopes and wind far better.
Adds the motor and the AS 5889.1 safety devices, photo beams, force limiting, and a manual release, which we fit as standard, never as optional extras. This is the price step.
Light, rust-free, easy on a motor. Slat or infill styles suit most modern homes.
Measure the clear space beside your driveway (fence line, wall, or garden bed). If it is about as wide as the opening, sliding fits.
Confirm there is mains power near the gate, or ask us about a solar and battery kit for a driveway with no supply.
What actually moves a gate price
A cheap sticker price usually hides one of these. Here is what to check before you sign, so the quote you get is the price you pay.
Manual or automated
The motor and its AS 5889.1 safety devices are the biggest single step in a gate price. A manual leaf costs a fraction of the same leaf powered.
Single or double leaf
A double swing splits a wide opening into two lighter leaves, but that is two hinge sets and, when automated, two motor arms rather than one.
Slope & groundwork
A sloping driveway means raking the track path level or sizing a swing arc that clears the grade. That groundwork is priced after a site check.
Gate material & fill
A solid Colorbond or timber leaf is heavier and catches wind, so the motor is sized up. A light aluminium slat leaf is easier on the motor.
New build or retrofit
Adding a motor to a sound existing gate is a smaller job. A new automated system with fabricated leaves, posts and track is a different order.
Power & extras
Mains power near the gate keeps it simple. No supply means a solar and battery kit. Loop detectors, safety beams and intercoms are itemised, never hidden.
The safety devices an automated gate must have
A powered gate that can move a person or a pet has to fail safe. Under AS 5889.1 these are requirements, not up-sells. We fit the full set on every automated gate and hand you the paperwork.
Photo-electric beams
An invisible beam across the opening on both sides of travel. Break it while the gate is moving and the gate stops or reverses before it can touch anything.
Force limiting / auto-reverse
If the leaf meets resistance it measures the force and reverses rather than pushing through. The motor is tuned so it cannot crush.
Emergency manual release
A key or lever that disengages the motor so the gate can be moved by hand in a power cut or an emergency.
Battery backup
Minimum 100 cycles on a full charge so the gate keeps working, and stays safe, through a Melbourne blackout.
