Sandringham sits right on the bay, so a prestige fence here has to do two things at once: hold the water view and survive the salt. On a glass or slim-aluminium coastal fence the visible material rarely rusts. It is the spigots, brackets, screws and post cores that go. We spec 316 stainless hardware and a marine coating behind the fence you actually see.

On a view-driven bayside block the panel is the part everyone looks at and the part that never fails. The fixings, the wind exposure and the streetscape usually decide the real scope.

On a frameless glass or slim-aluminium coastal fence the visible material rarely rusts. The spigots, brackets, screws and post cores fail first. In the near-shore C4 band we use 316 stainless hardware and a marine coating so the hidden parts last as long as the good-looking ones.

A frameless glass clifftop frontage, slim Surfmist® aluminium detailing and marine-grade Colorbond® side runs, all on 316 stainless hardware. The fence you see stays open to the bay; the fixings behind it are built for the salt.

A frameless glass pool surround a short walk from the beach. The glass never corrodes, so the whole job is the hardware. We used 316 stainless spigots and fixings and built the barrier to the current Victorian pool-safety rules, keeping the bay view open.
A view frontage on the cliff edge catching the full bay wind. We sized the slim aluminium and glass to the wind load, kept the frame light so the view stayed open, and used a marine coating and 316 stainless fixings for the exposure.

Beach Road
A boundary fence is shared. Under the Fences Act 1968 (Vic) adjoining owners generally split the cost of a sufficient dividing fence. Where the coastal spec adds cost we set the standard fence and the corrosion upgrade out separately, so the shared portion stays clear.

The glass does not corrode. The rust is coming from the spigots, brackets or fixings behind it, which take the salt first on a bayside block. On the near-shore C4 band we use 316 stainless hardware and a marine coating so the hidden parts last as long as the glass.
